Be Yourself!
Dear Friends,
I recently saw a super-interesting post with Dr. Zach Bush talking about a study that measured the energy of different emotional states.
As expected, elevated emotions such as love and joy created high energy.
But, to the surprise of the researchers, even greater energy was created when the person was being authentic, being true to themselves - regardless of their emotional state.
Growing up, many of us got the message that it wasn’t okay to be our most real selves.
We learned strategies such as people-pleasing and hiding our most honest self in order to survive.
That dissonance creates a lot of stress in our mind/body/spirit, which can lead to feeling like something important is missing in our lives.
Over time, the stress of trying to be what we think we should be in order to fit in, rather than who we truly are, can lead to things like mental and physical illness.
With this in mind, how can you begin to express your truest, deepest self more fully, even in small ways?
Here are some questions to help you get back in touch with your authentic self:
What do you love, what makes your heart sing?
What do you feel passionate about?
What makes you angry?
What did you love as a child?
When do you feel most deeply/truly yourself?
When do you tend to override your true self with people-pleasing, hiding your true self, etc.?
If you didn’t have to follow society’s rules, what would you do? Who would you be?
How can you be even a little more of your truest, most authentic self today?
