Staying Grounded in These Crazy Times

Staying Grounded in These Crazy Times

Less than two weeks until the U.S. election. Have you voted yet?

These are intense times for everyone and can be especially challenging for heart centered women with high empathy.

We feel our own feelings deeply and also tend to feel the emotions of everyone around us and in the larger society.

Staying grounded can make it easier to handle the emotional intensity.

Here are three strategies that help with grounding:

  1. Spend time in nature. Use all your senses to make a connection between your physical body and the natural world. What do you see? What can you hear? Birds singing, dry leaves rustling? What do you smell? What can you touch? Trees, rocks, water, your pets? Eat natural food and think about how it is a gift from the earth. Notice your breath moving in and out.

  2. Keep making progress on your goals. Taking even small steps towards our goals helps keep us grounded in our values and our hopes for the future, and gives us a sense of control when it can seem like so much is out of our control. What are your dreams? What steps can you take every day to move yourself in the direction of your dreams?

  3. Be gentle with yourself and others. Everyone is feeling the intensity right now and dealing with it as best they can. Heart centered women tend to try to take care of everyone else and not always do such a great job of caring for ourselves. We need to make it a priority to fill up our own energy tanks every day so we have strength to help our loved ones and our communities.

What is helping you stay grounded during these intense times?
